Pregnancy Diaries: 2nd Trimester Update

Most moms said 2nd trimester of pregnancy is the easiest. And yes, I felt the same way. It is very much different from what I experienced during my 1st trimester. Anyway, I’m here to share with you what happened, what are my experiences and what are the symptoms I got during this period. So read on, mommies!

What I am really thankful for during my 2nd trimester is the symptoms that make my life miserable disappeared, like the gas, flatulence, and constipation. In fact, I was able to fly to Coron with my family for vacation. I got the chance to enjoy it. I was able to go snorkeling, go on an island tour, and other activities I did not know I could because I am pregnant. Truly, I can say that my energy really came back.

Not only did my energy came back, but my appetite as well. And because of this, I had gained a lot of weight. During my 1st trimester, I even lose a number of pounds, maybe because I am not fond of eating during those times, which I know was caused by the gas symptom. But on my 2nd trimester, my OB even talked to me regarding the rapid weight gain I am having. She said pregnant moms should only gain 4-5 pounds per month. But what can I do? I can’t help but eat from time to time. OB said that pregnant moms really feel hungry at all times, which is why we should stock up on crackers. However, crackers don’t make my tummy full. I really needed rice or pasta!
Since I really gained some weight, another symptom I’ve encountered is having difficulty sleeping. Because the baby is growing, my OB advised sleeping only either on my right or left side. This will give way to better blood flow which delivers oxygen to the baby. I really had a hard time sleeping since I’m not used to sleeping on my side.
Aside from these symptoms, during my 20th week, TMI but my left breast is already leaking. According to some researches I’ve read online, this is normal. Sometimes, as early as 14 weeks, pregnant moms already have leaking breasts. This liquid is called “colostrum”. This is often thick and color yellow or orange, while others are clear, thin and watery, the same as mine.
According to my OB, just let it flow. Don’t pump it because breast stimulation may cause release of oxytocin. This is the hormone that causes uterine contraction and may also cause early labor. Other pregnant moms are advised to pump in some cases, especially if there is a possibility of early birth and if the baby has birth defects/congenital conditions.
I know every mom is different. Not all of us get the chance to enjoy their 2nd trimester of pregnancy. But one thing I’m sure, we all feel happy for this new bundle of joy we are waiting for.
Until next time, mommykins!

  1. 2nd trimester was always the easiest for me too for all my past pregnancies. No more morning sickness and food aversion. That’s when I was able to shop for baby stuff and do some exercises too. 🙂 Enjoy your entire pregnancy, Cess. Have a safe delivery!

  2. Thank you Veronica! I agree, I also got the chance to do baby stuff shopping during the 2nd trimester. 😉
