Being pregnant is full of anticipation. Will they be healthy? Will they look like you or your partner? What should you name them? Well, I know we can’t wait to meet this growing person inside our belly.
Another thing we can’t wait to know is the gender of the baby. From there, we will have our first idea of who they will be in the future. However, usually, it takes 16-20 weeks before we could schedule that gender determining ultrasound. I know the waiting game is one of the hardest parts in pregnancy. I’ve been there. So what we, pregnant women, can do is to find ways how to predict the gender of our baby.
I’ve listed here some of the most popular gender prediction myths:
- The Ring
You will be needing a gold ring and a thread for this one. Take the thread through the ring and ask someone to dangle it over your baby bump. Allow the thread to move without any external interference. If it swings back and forth, your baby is a boy while if it swings in a circle, it is a girl.
- Baking Soda Test
Pour two to three tablespoon of baking soda in a cup and fill it will your urine. If you’ve ever had a scientific experiment creating an erupting volcano using vinegar and baking soda, that’s the same as this. But instead of vinegar, we’ll be using your urine. If it fizzes up, expect a baby boy but if it doesn’t then you are having a girl.
- Chinese Gender Predictor Calendar
This gender predictor calendar has been used for hundreds of years already. It is a matrix table based on your age at conception and the month when you have conceived the baby.
- Baby’s Heart Rate
Based on old wives’ tale, if the baby’s heart rate exceeds 140 beats per minute, your baby is a girl. If it is less than 140 bpm, then you are having a boy.
- Ramzi Theory
This theory was developed by Dr. Saam Ramzi Ismail. He said that the gender of an unborn child can be determined using the early (6-9 weeks) ultrasound. You just have to locate the location of the placenta. If the placenta is on your left side, then it will be a girl. If it is on the right, then it’s definitely a boy. However, take note that there are ultrasounds that are mirrored, so better ask your sonologist/radiologist first.
The accuracy of these methods are definitely not a hundred percent, but they will be fun ways to do while waiting for your 20th-week ultrasound. Which of these have you tried already, mommykins?
Well, I’ve personally tried the Chinese Gender Predictor Calendar and checked the baby’s heart rate. According to the Chinese calendar, I will be having a boy, but according to my baby’s heart rate, it is a girl. So, definitely one of them is correct, but what method would it be? I will be having my ultrasound soon to determine the gender, and I’m so excited about it.
I guess my next update will be about my experience during the ultrasound? Until next time, mommykins…
