8 Things I've Learned in "Child Safety In The Digital Age" | An Event Presented by Pigeon Baby

I was so glad I got the chance to attend this event presented by Pigeon Baby, “Child Safety In A Digital Age”. It was held on May 15, 2019 (2pm) at Cibo, Powerplant Mall, Makati and hosted by Mommy Isabelle Daza-Semblat. It was an afternoon full of learning especially to first-time moms like me.

he said event was powered by Baby Company, and sponsored by Quinn Philippines, Maxi Cosi and Parenting On The Move. They have invited a panel of experts that can share tips and knowledge about child safety. These experts are as follows:

  • Maye Yao – Co Say – COO, Richwell Phils., Inc.
  • Teacher Tanya Velasco – RIE Practicum Student
  • Bernice V. Quiroz – Tan, MD, FSOGS – Obstetrician-Gynecologist
  • Ma. Celi M. Rico-Tantianpact – General Pediatrician specializing in Pediatric Dermatology
  • Georges Ramirez – Senior Editor, C! Magazine
  • Art Samaniego Jr. – Technology Editor, Manila Bulletin

Truly, they are experts as we have learned a lot from them. I’ve listed a few to share with you the key points I’ve learned from this talk.

1. Reading a book to your child

Who knew reading could be so much helpful to our child?

2. Frequent changing of breastpads

Ms. Maye Yao – Co Say shared her conversation with Pigeon Japan. They asked her how frequently Filipino moms change breastpads, and she replied ” I don’t know, maybe once a day?” The Japanese were shocked because in Japan, they usually change theirs every after several feedings.

3. Oversharing in social media

Mr. Art Samaniego Jr. shared how easily one can steal your identity just by observing and studying your posts online. They can even get into your bank accounts. Scary!

4. Sharing posts about your child

Maybe our children doesn’t want their photos shared online. If we can, let’s ask their permission first before we post anything about them.

5. Gadget usage

Lots of mommies are guilty of letting their children use gadgets at a very young age. However, let’s think twice if it is okay for our child to receive the consequences just to have our quiet time while they use their gadgets.

6. Car seats as investment

As I’ve mentioned in my blog before, the Republic Act 11229, a law which provides for the Special Protection of Child Passengers in Motor Vehicles, was recently passed by our government. A lot has complained that car seats are too much expensive for them in order to abide by this law. But if you’ll just realize, our child’s safety is more valuable than any amount of money.

7. Sleeping position

Mommy Isabelle Daza-Semblat shared that she and her husband are arguing about this. She insisted that their baby should sleep on his tummy because he sleeps better and longer, while her husband prefers their baby sleeping on his back. Good thing the experts are there in the event to explain which sleeping position is best.

8. Babyproofing

Children are naturally curious. They don’t know danger. It’s our duty as parents to keep their area safe from harm.

I hope there will be more events like this in the future because this is what moms need in this digital age where danger is just a click away. And of course, child safety is the most important for us, right moms?

If you think these reminders would help someone, feel free to share this post to them.

Until next time, mommykins…

  1. This is some helpful information, especially regarding excessive photosharing. I barely post photos of my kids, if i do, they have their backs turned or their faces only partially revealed. I also request family members not to post their photos unless they ask me first. Children need their privacy too.

  2. I am glad someone shared what was learned in the event. As a new mom, I really love hearing lessons about child safety mainly because it is our main priority and we wanna make sure that we are doing our best to keep them safe. I’m still working on the gadgets part but hopefully, I’ll get there soon!

  3. Thank you for sharing your learnings from the event. 🙂 This is a great resource especially for first-time moms like me. I am guilty of letting my kid use gadgets as early as 1 year old. When I’ve read research about the effects of gadgets, I made sure that he won’t use it again unless it’s a video call from our relatives.

  4. these are very helpful information, especially about oversharing. nakakaguilty din diba. we dont know how to limit, especially to us bloggers. thats why what I do na lang din is delayed posting para at least di “live” na tipong pwede masundan ba,,
