Being pregnant comes along a wide range of sudden cravings. Last week, it was Chinese food I am seeking. Keep in mind that that’s not the only thing that goes together with pregnancy, but also LUCK. Zong has invited me to try out some of their dishes! Wow, this baby bump really is a luck magnet!
We visited the restaurant during lunch time, and boy, the place is bright and cold despite the 38 degrees Celsius heat outside. The nicely decorated traditional Chinese interior with matching oriental music welcomed us as we enter. The brightness from the windows definitely gave the place a clean look.
Now for the food, which was served very fast, by the way, first served was their Seafood Soup Blend with Spinach (Php168). It is one of their dishes listed under “Favorites”. It is a very healthy soup (which is good for me and the baby) that consists of shrimp, scallops, tofu, carrots, spinach and mushroom. I just wished they could lessen the saltiness, just a bit. 😉
Next was their new Almond Gulaman drink (Php138) and Watermelon Shake (Php158), two very refreshing drinks on a hot afternoon. As for their Almond Gulaman drink, just imagine the usual almond gulaman desserts from other Chinese restaurants, but with straw. I just loved it for not being too sweet.
Main dishes served were their Yang Chow Fried Rice (Php298), Sautéed Prawns with Broccoli in Chili Sauce (Php428), Deep Fried Prawn and Peach Roll (Php148), and Fried Golden Egg Fish/Fried Fish in Salted Egg (Php398).
The Yang Chow was the best smelling Yang Chow I’ve ever smelled, AND the taste did not disappoint. I can say it is also one of the best Yang Chow Fried Rice I ever tasted. Bonus points for not having peas! Haha. I don’t want peas on my rice, sorry.
Zong is also a vegetarian-friendly restaurant. On their menu, they’ve marked all vegetarian-friendly dishes they offer. Great job, Zong! Well, if you’re not really a full pledge vegetarian but still loves veggies, they have plenty of viands with vegetables that you can choose from. One of these is the Sautéed Prawns with Broccoli in Chili Sauce. All main ingredients are good for me, yay! Prawns are rich in proteins, vitamins and omega-3, plus it is low in calories. Just make sure the prawns are thoroughly cooked before consuming because it also could be harmful for us pregnant mommies and to our unborn children. Anyway, going back, another main ingredient is broccoli. Well, this one is a superfood for pregnant women. It is rich in calcium, fiber, vitamin C, and of course, the much needed folate.
Deep Fried Prawn and Peach Roll is also a must-try in Zong. I love how crispy and thin the wrapper is, and how it melts in my mouth. If you’re into dishes that has sweetness (from the peach) fighting over the sourness (from the mayonnaise), well, this is for you.
The last viand we had, but definitely a hands down and the winner of all, the Fried Fish in Salted Egg. It has a very addicting taste that you can’t resist. The salted egg yolk in the batter is very tasty and the coating is also crunchy. I will absolutely dine again at Zong because of this dish!
As for the dessert, we had their new Sesame Ball with White Chocolate (Php128). One serving consists of 3 sesame balls already and it is also served warm. It is almost the same with what we usually call “Buchi”, but this time, the fillings is white chocolate, and it is GOOD! The chocolate is very warm and satisfying your sweet tooth.
Overall, other than the saltiness of the soup, Zong has gained its right to be written in my favourite restaurant list!
