How to Start Being a Work-at-Home Mom

Moms… They were actually our first hero, they allow us to see the world by taking care of us in their womb for nine months and doing their best to make sure that we’ll live. Well, in my perspective, every mother is already considered a work-at-home mom. Why? Because literally they are the ones who do the most of the jobs in the house, they cook, clean, wash clothes, take care of the children and a lot more.

So what kind of “Work-at-Home” are we talking about here? This is a kind of paid job where someone does not need to commute and go to office to do their task. Instead, they are required to deliver output or service using technology by the means of computers, laptops, or even tablet and phones provided they have internet connection.

Now, as a mom, what are the things that you should take into consideration before deciding to chase work from home jobs?

These are some of the guidelines that may help you get started with this journey.

Identify your purpose.

First things first, you must identify your purpose. Is it to help your partner to provide finances for the family? To continue your career professionally? Or just to explore and try something new? Any of this can be your ground to find a job but identifying your intention will help you be guided to what type of job you will look for.

Determine the skills that you have.

There are so many job offerings online but it doesn’t mean that you should apply to every posting that you’ll see. It will be just a waste of time if you don’t know what are the specific skills you can offer. It will be helpful to reflect and look back at your last job to determine your field and expertise. On the other hand, if you are a type of person who wants to dive to new challenges there’s nothing wrong with it.

Be specific with the time you want to render.

Now, that you are sure that you want to pursue working at home. You must ask yourself how much of your time you are willing to devote for that job? Remember our hashtag, #KBG “Kids before gig”? It is very essential that your top priority which is your family and childcare schedule won’t be affected. Anyways, telecommunicating jobs is not always a full-time job. Some are part time and others will give you a flexible time. It is just important that before you commit on any job you are certain about your schedule around your family.

There’s nothing wrong to ask for advice.

Sometimes, we feel intimidated to ask for help but it’s actually a wrong mind setting. Aside from searching the internet, the best way to land on most reliable source for work at home jobs is to ask those who are already in this field. Their experiences and tips may help you be confident enough. Good thing there are now some sites dedicated for moms seeking for remote jobs.

Do the search and background checking.

Particularly for first timers, it is very overwhelming to see a lot of telecommunicating jobs especially if it offers very high compensations. But you must be very careful in supplying your personal information. There are some people using “work at home” jobs to scam other people so better do a background check of the company before you apply.

Enjoy the opportunity.

Lastly, once you got hired, all you need to do is to enjoy the opportunity of having a work and being with your family. Either it is a full time or a part time job, always make sure that you have a balance and healthy lifestyle. Remember you are a mom!
